Favorite thing(s) about Tulane: “My favorite part about Tulane is engaging academically with some professors and fostering relationships with different departments across the Tulane campus.”

I’m Xiomara Guzman, a Mexican American first-generation college student, majoring in Communications, Social Policy, and Sociology at Tulane University. Although my career aspirations tend to shift every once in a while, I'm presently interested in connecting my field of study with being able to contribute to fostering non-profit healthcare and education with equitable distribution of opportunities. I will be a junior this upcoming 2024-25 school year, and I cannot believe how fast my college years are going by. I have been able to experience so many trials and tribulations and warm, engaging, and safe relationships with students, professors, and professionals all over campus, especially with the Center of Academic Equity.

What excites me the most about the Dean’s Ambassador position is the opportunity to combine my passion for outreach and networking with my strong interpersonal skills. My ability to connect with people and the support they have as Tulane Students will allow me to make a significant impact, as I try and bridge my connections with communities to see the need to support more students. I was motivated to join the Deans Ambassador Program to show the leadership and mentorship roles that I have gained with my openness, eagerness, and passion for community engagement and advocacy. Since my college experience has not been as imagined with many challenges throughout my two years here trying to navigate many different paths as a first-generation college student but through these experiences, I have been able to engage with diverse student bodies and learn about many resources offered at Tulane and other organizations. I thought it was time to be able to give back all I have been able to build and connect the bridges in the gaps I have experienced. I cannot wait to be able to represent and engage as a student voice for the efforts to advance our communities.
