Shyla Krishnappa is an undergraduate student at Tulane, graduating in Spring 2026. She is from Los Altos, California, pursuing a dual degree in Psychology and Design. In addition to being a Dean’s Ambassador, she is a part of Crawfest, Them Acapella, and Alpha Phi Omega. She also served on the Office of First Year Experience’s Board of Directors, planning and executing Hullabaloo Hello for the class of 2028. In her free time, Shyla enjoys crocheting, listening to music, and bullet journaling. Leadership is significant to Shyla because it has allowed her to form strong connections with her peers and help others achieve their goals. At Tulane, Shyla’s leadership roles have allowed her to step out of her comfort zone and create a positive, lasting impact on others. Leaders build meaningful relationships and help others achieve their aspirations. Being a good leader is an essential skill and allows you to be organized and accountable in all aspects of your life. Shyla became a Dean’s Ambassador because it allows her to work towards making a difference in Tulane’s community, by representing the university to prospective students, families, and visitors. Having personally benefited from Tulane's supportive and inclusive community, she is eager to share her experiences and insights with others to help them envision themselves as part of our vibrant campus community. She hopes to help with increasing diversity on Tulane’s campus, as it would be greatly beneficial for students' education during their time here in New Orleans. Interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds exposes students to a wide range of perspectives, ideas, and experiences. Having a diverse student body fosters critical thinking skills and encourages students to approach problems from multiple angles, leading to a richer learning environment. Shyla hopes to make a lasting impact on the incoming classes at Tulane, influencing the growth and culture of its campus.
