My name is Morgan Bennett. I am a sophomore and Paul Tulane scholar at Tulane University, double majoring in Political Science and Social Policy & Practice with a minor in Teaching, Training, and Learning. I am from New Orleans, LA, and I am excited to be a Dean’s Ambassador! I am excited to continue using my voice to advocate for the student body. My goal as a Dean’s Ambassador is to create a student experience that makes Tulane and the lovely city of New Orleans feel like home to all students, the way it does for me. I am excited to share my leadership philosophy that anyone can be a leader in their own way by encouraging students to pave their paths in leadership. Leadership, to me, is the catalyst for crafting a change that will leave a positive impact for all. I also believe that leadership is a tool used to bring people together. This belief is among the many factors in my decision to become a Dean’s Ambassador. As stated before, I want to work with the students to amplify their voices and build that home away from home. This passion stemmed from an experience in which, in a matter of minutes, I felt that I had lost my community because the leaders who were in charge did not take hate speech seriously. Since that incident, I have vowed to work hard to build these communities on Tulane’s campus. In my role as the Recognized Student Organizations Council Co-Chair (RSOCCC) of the Tulane Undergraduate Assembly (TUA) for the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting and collaborating with the over 340 student organizations across the Tulane community. This experience has not only honed my leadership skills but also deepened my understanding of the diverse needs of our student body and the benefit that student-run communities have on one’s student experience. In addition to building communities among students, I have worked to build connections between students and alumni as a Career Launch Peer Mentor and build connections to the New Orleans community through my non-profit organization, Morgan’s Community Blankets, a local organization that teaches high school students hands-on community service by creating no-sew blankets that are distributed to the New Orleans community. Outside of building communities, I am actively involved as a College Scholar, a Newcomb Peer Mentor, a member of the Sophomore Advisory Council, a student member of the Tulane Dining Committee, a student member of the Brown Field Bubble Committee, an alumna of the Leader Shape program, a Group Fitness Instructor at Tulane Campus Recreation where I teach a Barre Class and a volunteer at a local elementary school. For fun, I am an avid and certified yogi, a Converse shoe lover, and a foodie; one of my favorite meals is the Sweet Potato Beignets from Mondays!
