Evelyn Howard is a junior majoring in Anthropology and minoring in Public Health and Philosophy on the pre-med track. With a passion for science and medicine, Evelyn is a Research Assistant in Dr. Jack’s primate research lab where she studies white-faced capuchin monkeys. She also contributes to Chagas disease research with Dr. Claudia Herrera in downtown New Orleans at the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. On campus, Evelyn is a member of the Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity and for the past two years, has been a dancer and choreographer on Jazbaa, Tulane’s Bollywood fusion dance team. Additionally, she volunteers at the Children’s Hospital New Orleans in the Emergency Department and each semester at Tulane’s GiST and BATS programs. Evelyn was initially attracted to the Dean’s Ambassador Program because she believes this organization inspires a passion for Tulane and aids in creating meaningful involvement for all students on campus. It is her goal as a Dean’s Ambassador to give back to her community by creating a welcoming environment for people of all backgrounds. She hopes that in her role, she can offer students an opportunity to celebrate their differences and represent Tulane in a way that is wholly characteristic of its spirit. Evelyn also aims to be an honest voice for the NTC student body, as she feels it is critical for students to not only be heard but understood. To Evelyn, leadership is collaboration and providing others a safe space to freely voice their perspectives and opinions. In her role as a Dean’s Ambassador, Evelyn wants to create this atmosphere for her peers and work closely with her cohort to embrace this method of leadership.
