Favorite thing(s) about Tulane: “One of my favorite things about Tulane is the professors.”

My name is Aria Gasca and I am a rising sophomore with a double major in Public Health and Gender & Sexuality Studies, with a minor in Philosophy. My hometown is sunny Los Angeles, California! When I am not busy, I can be found at a coffee shop near campus called Petite Rouge or Cypress Books petting the store’s cat, Kitty Meow. I love to read any and all books but one that has recently captured my heart is Breath: A Letter to My Sons by Imani Perry. Additionally, being of service to others has always been a priority in my life. Fortunately, I am able to help those within my immediate community as a member of Tulane’s Emergency Medical Services. I am privileged to serve as a Dean’s Ambassador at Tulane as this institution has profoundly shaped my academic journey and personal growth. One of the most remarkable aspects of Tulane that continually inspires me is the caliber of its professors. Their dedication to excellence and their genuine passion for teaching have been instrumental in shaping my intellectual curiosity and fostering a love for learning that knows no bounds. The wealth of knowledge I have gained from them is immense, and it has fueled my desire to delve deeper into various fields of study. At Tulane, I have also had the opportunity to explore diverse disciplines and expand my horizons in ways I never imagined. Whether it's through rigorous academic pursuits or engaging in extracurricular activities, I have embraced every opportunity to broaden my perspectives and challenge myself to grow both academically and personally. When considering what leadership means to me, I believe it is the ability to bring people from diverse backgrounds together and inspire them to work collaboratively towards a common goal. It is about fostering an environment of mutual respect, understanding, and empathy, where every voice is heard and valued. As a Dean's Ambassador, I am motivated by the opportunity to contribute to Tulane's ongoing efforts to diversify its student population and promote equitable access to education. While the university has made significant strides in this regard, there is always more that can be done to raise awareness and understanding amongst different cultural groups. I also want to promote and increase the number of incredible programs and support systems available to students of color. By leveraging my role as a Dean's Ambassador, I hope to empower and support marginalized communities, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive and succeed. My role as a Dean's Ambassador embodies my commitment to fostering leadership, cultivating community, and advocating for equity. While on the committee I hope to serve as a catalyst for positive change within our campus.
