Laura Marks

Laura Helen Marks is a senior professor of practice in English at Tulane where she teaches first-year writing with an emphasis on gender and sexuality. She also regularly teaches literature at the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women thanks to a collaboration between Tulane and the nonprofit Operation Restoration. Her research centers around adult film, especially pornographic subgenres, intersections between porn and the mainstream, porn stardom and generally the weird and marginal elements of x-rated media. Her work in porn studies has appeared in several academic journals and collections and her book, Alice in Pornoland: Hardcore Encounters With the Victorian Gothic, which was published by Illinois University Press in 2018. Outside of her academic work, she makes custom mosaics, specializing in pop culture and pets.
