Newcomb-Tulane College Return and Readmission Guidelines
Students who have previously been enrolled in Newcomb Tulane College and wish to return after an absence are required to complete the NTC Return/Readmission Form. The return process depends on the circumstances of the student’s departure and, in some cases, requires additional review or documentation.
The NTC Return/Readmission form is required for students who are:
- Returning from an approved Personal Leave of Absence
- Returning from an approved Medical Leave of Absence
- Returning following an Honor Board Suspension
- Requesting Readmission following Academic Dismissal
- Requesting Readmission from an expired Personal or Medical Leave of Absence
- Requesting Readmission after leaving the College without an approved Leave of Absence
Students returning from a conduct suspension must work with the Office of Student Conduct.
Readmission Deadlines
For students not returning from an approved and unexpired leave of absence, completed forms and supporting materials should be submitted by the following deadlines:
Intended Return Term Deadline
Summer May 1
Fall July 1
Spring December 1
Submission of a readmission form does not guarantee approval, except for students returning from an approved and unexpired leave of absence.
Return Requests
Returning from a Personal Leave of Absence
Students returning from an approved Personal Leave of Absence should complete the NTC Return/Readmission Form. Once the form has been processed, the student's account will be reactivated, notifying the student and their college advisor. Students who voluntarily leave a school within the University and return to that same school within one calendar year may continue their studies under the degree requirements in effect at the time they left.
If a Personal Leave of Absence has expired, the student's request to return is subject to review at the discretion of the NTC Dean or designee.
Returning from an Approved Medical Leave of Absence
Students returning from an approved Medical Leave of Absence should complete both:
- The NTC Return/Readmission Form
- The Medical Return Protocol through Case Management and Victim Support Services (CMVSS)
Information about the Medical Return Protocol is available through CMVSS. Please note the deadlines listed for submitting documentation. Students returning from a Medical Leave of Absence will not be readmitted until the Medical Return Protocol has been completed and approved by CMVSS.
Returning from an Honor Board Suspension
Students returning following an Honor Board Suspension must complete the NTC Return/Readmission Form and provide a narrative addressing their time away and their plans for a successful return to the College. Additionally, these students must complete the return process with the Office of Academic Integrity before the NTC readmission form can be approved.
Readmission Requests
Requesting Readmission after Academic Dismissal
Students requesting readmission following Academic Dismissal must complete the NTC Return/Readmission Form and provide a narrative addressing their time away from the College and the steps they have taken to prepare for a successful return to their studies. Students who completed coursework at another institution during their time away will be prompted to provide a transcript showing final grades for completed courses.
Requests for readmission following Academic Dismissal are reviewed at the discretion of the NTC Dean or designee. Students may be asked to provide additional information or documentation as part of the review process, and readmission is not guaranteed.
Requesting Readmission after an Expired Leave of Absence
Students whose Personal or Medical Leave of Absence has expired must complete the NTC Return/Readmission Form. Requests for readmission following an expired leave are subject to review at the discretion of the NTC Dean or designee, and readmission is not guaranteed.
Students returning from an expired Medical Leave of Absence must also complete the Medical Return Protocol with CMVSS. Completion and approval of the Medical Return Protocol is required before the student can be considered for readmission.
Requesting Readmission without an Approved Leave of Absence
Students who leave the College without formally requesting or receiving approval for a Leave of Absence must complete the NTC Return/Readmission Form. Decisions on readmission are at the discretion of the NTC Dean or designee.
Students who have been away from the College for more than two calendar years without an approved Leave of Absence may be referred to the Admissions Office to re-apply to Tulane.
General Return and Readmission Information
The NTC Dean or designee may consider the circumstances surrounding a student's departure, time away from the College, academic history, and other relevant factors when reviewing a readmission request. Readmission decisions are made on a case-by-case basis for return requests that require review.
Students should submit all required materials by the applicable deadline and may be asked to provide additional information as part of the review process. All communications will be sent to the student’s Tulane email account.
All returning and readmitted students should connect with their NTC college advisor as soon as possible to register for or review their upcoming course schedule and progress toward their degree.
