Celebrating a Major Declaration

Even though they’d been at Tulane for a full year, sophomores face new, unique challenges such as choosing a major, adjusting to leadership roles, and a rise in academic expectations and rigor. To ease this transition and provide support, the 2019 Sophomore Week and its premier event, the Sophomore Declaration Celebration, helped students identify on-campus resources and programs to guide them in their academic journey, connected them with faculty and peers, and celebrated their milestone of declaring a major and being halfway to graduation. During the celebration, they shared in a toast with Provost Robin Forman and Interim Dean Kelly Grant, posted their achievements on NTC’s Accomplishment Board, and received their Class of 2021 pin, their first piece of academic regalia. Students had the choice to spotlight a member of the Tulane community who made an impact on their collegiate experience so far, electing that member to pin them at the ceremony.
