A stately live oak is depicted on the inside of the Newcomb Gate at the corner of Broadway and Oak streets. When Newcomb College moved to the uptown location in 1918, acorns from live oaks on the old Garden District campus were planted and have become the oaks that surround the Newcomb quad, symbolizing the continuity of past and present.
