The Georges Lurcy Grants

The Georges Lurcy Grant Program offers Newcomb-Tulane College
students the opportunity to undertake a term-time research or
other special project under the direction of a faculty member.
Grants in the range of $200 to $1,500 will be awarded for the
purchase of research materials and resources, for travel and
access to special collections or libraries, conference expenses,
laboratory supplies, performance-related expenses, art supplies,
and to defray other expenses directly incurred by project research.
Examples of such projects may include but are not limited to:
• performance of an original musical or theatrical work,
• research in the laboratory of a faculty mentor,
• honors-thesis research requiring the consultation of
special collections,
• exhibition of a portfolio of art,
• attendance at professional conferences,
• research requiring field work or study.
Applicants should make detailed and specific proposals that clearly show how the grant will be used. To be eligible, students must be registered for a regular or special course (such as an honors thesis, independent study, or special-projects course) that is directly related to the funded research. Students requesting funding for research involving human subjects will be required to submit proof of IRB approval before the grant is disbursed; please visit http://tulane.edu/asvpr/irb/index.cfm for more information. Winners of Georges Lurcy Research Grants will make presentations of their research and findings in public colloquia, performances, or exhibitions. Please note that your grant will be reported to the Internal Revenue Service and will, in most cases, be considered taxable income (see IRS publication 970 for additional information).

Fall 2011: Wednesday, October 5, at 5 p.m.
Spring 2012: Friday, February 10, at 5 p.m.
