The Liberal Arts Research Awards allow Newcomb-Tulane College students to obtain funding for research and scholarship in the liberal arts. Students may apply for up to $1000 in funding.
Examples of projects that may qualify for a Liberal Arts Research Award are:
• travel costs and fees incurred while attending an academic conference in a liberal arts discipline
• participation in an individual or group research project in a liberal arts discipline
• production costs for student-run music, theatre or dance performances
• exhibition costs for an art project
Applicants should make detailed and specific proposals that clearly show how the grant will be used. Students requesting funding for research involving human subjects will be required to submit proof of IRB approval before the grant is disbursed; please visit http://tulane.edu/asvpr/irb/index.cfm for more information. Winners of Liberal Arts Research Awards will be required to present their work to the Tulane community at a conference to be held in the spring semester. Please note that your grant will be reported to the Internal Revenue Service and will, in most cases, be considered taxable income (see IRS publication 970 for additional information).
Applications will be accepted throughout the school year. The final day to submit an application for funding for projects taking place during the 2011-12 school year, including summer 2011, is April 20, 2012. Please note that due to the rolling application process, there may be less funding available as we approach the end of the school year. Therefore, we recommend that you submit your application as early as possible.
